Workshop on Risk Assessment of Phthalates in Food was held in Beijing in 17 April,2013

The Workshop on Risk Assessment of Phthalates in Food was successfully held in 17 April, 2013 in Beijing.  Eight speakers from both Chinese and European sides discussed residual phthalates in wines and spirits, plasticizer management and regulations in China and EU, analysis method, assessment of plasticizer intake in Chinese population and implementation in laboratories in EU.
Both China and EU emphasized that phthalates are forbidden to be used as food additive.  Mr. Sanchez Recarte delivered industry messages that: “phthalate –free” is not realistic, the EU approach appropriately and effectively protects consumer health, residual  phthalates that may be found in some wines and spirits do not present a public health risk, migration limits can not be transposed to maximum levels in foods, which should be the TDI and the exposure, and test for wines and spirits should not be mandatory。
